Ready, Set, Go! Natrona County Early Childhood Alliance Hosts Ready League Kick-Off Event!

The Natrona County Early Childhood Alliance Ready League Kick-Off Event was held on September 21st at the Ramkota Hotel and Convention Center. The Ready League is a community initiative that promotes family interactions which aid in school readiness. The Ready League emphasizes the important role of families and communities in supporting young children and relies on caring adults whose goal is that children are successful in school and beyond!

During the event author Bob McLeod read to the children and answered their questions about famous Superheroes. McLeod wrote and illustrated Superhero ABC, an alphabet picture book published by HarperCollins in 1986, which received starred reviews from School Library Journal and ABA Booklist. He has recently written two follow-up books, which are awaiting publication.

Bob McLeod is also a well-known comic book artist for Marvel and DC, and co-created the Marvel comic book The New Mutants, a younger team of X-Men. After reading his book to the children, he showed them how he creates his Superhero characters and artwork! Children then clamored for paper and crayons to excitedly draw a Superhero of their own!

Funding for this project was allocated by the Wyoming State Legislature through a 2015-2016 Early Childhood Community Partnership Grant. Additional community funding and support is provided by Natrona County School District #1 and the United Way of Natrona County.
