Discover how our kids are being empowered to create their future!
University Park Elementary recently hosted a Spirit Run for a fellow student in need of a heart transplant. 10 year-old Anthony has Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy and Cardiomyophathy. Currently, Anthony and his family are staying at the Children’s Hospital in Colorado and will be away from their home for several months while waiting for the transplant and during the subsequent recovery. Students at University Park Elementary, along with staff, parents, and community members, came together to raise funds to help Anthony and his family.
“I love to play football and am a huge Colts fan! I have been spending most of my time watching tv, playing Xbox games and building legos!! I can’t wait to see everyone soon!!” Anthony
Over $18,000 has been donated to help Anthony and his family. Students from Paradise Valley Elementary also collected pledges and participated in the Spirit Run. During the day of the event, Kelly Walsh High School students arrived at University Park Elementary ready to help however they could. “Every Child, Every Day, Whatever it Takes!”: University Park Elementary’s motto isn’t just something to say, it truly is something they live by each day. Donations will continue to be accepted and can be made to University Park (check or cash) as a fund has been set-up directly for Anthony’s family.
