NCSD Teachers Receive Fund for Teachers Grant

Congratulations to five Natrona County School District teachers:  Mr. Todd Hallsted, Mr. Dan Wright, & Mr. Carl Myers from NCHS, Vanessa Worrell from Sagewood Elementary, and Jessica Erdman from Poison Spider Elementary who were chosen out of a record number of Wyoming applicants, to receive the 2015 Fund For Teachers Fellowship Grant!

This fellowship will allow NCHS teachers, Mr. Todd Hallsted, Mr. Dan Wright and Mr. Carl Myers, to experience the environmental and cultural dynamics of American Samoa, one of the last places on Earth settled by humans and colonized by Europeans. They will use their experiences to develop an inter-disciplinary, project-based unit that expands ninth graders’ perceptions of how environment, culture and history influence each other over time.

Vanessa Worrell from Sagewood Elementary will research with internationally renowned expert Stephen G. Feiferin in Wellfleet, MA, neurological causes and evidence based interventions for specific learning disorders to create individualized assessments and plans for instruction of all students.
Poison Spider Elementary teacher, Jessica Erdman will participate in a 200 hour Yoga for Kids training and certification program in Boston and St. Augustine, FL, to implement yoga and mindfulness in the classroom and help students of all levels, especially those with special needs, learn how to control their emotions and actions in stressful situations

After navigating the globe conducting field research, attending seminars, volunteering with community organizations or observing best practices, our Fellows inspire school communities with authentic learning.  Ultimately the impacts are witnessed through enhanced student achievement.

These NCSD educators now join a cohort of more than 6,500 educators who pursued new knowledge and skills through Fund for Teachers’ self-designed fellowships.
