Natrona County School District Art Educator, Marie Meeks, was selected as Middle Level Art Educator of the Year by the Wyoming Art Education Association. Marie Meeks currently teaches at Natrona County High School. At the time of her nomination and selection for this award, she was teaching at Frontier Middle School in Casper.
Fellow educator, Kora Hoffman, recommended Meeks for the award and wrote of her amazing contributions to the school and willingness to go above and beyond to help students, fellow teachers and the community:
“Marie brings enthusiasm and excitement to the classroom. She has developed meaningful relationships with kids, which has allowed her to get to know her students. She is always conscious of what the learning requirements are, as well as, meeting the students’ needs. Marie is eager to try innovative practices and is adaptable to make sure rigor is not compromised.
Marie makes a dedicated effort to communicate, collaborate and be connected to the staff. She seeks to be informed and involved. She brings vast knowledge and expertise to the classroom and school. Her open mindedness helps connect Fine Art to all disciplines and helps students to create relevance and breathtaking work.”
Marie earned a Bachelor of Art in Art Education from the University of Wyoming and has further earned credits from Northwest Community College, Western Wyoming College, the University of Idaho and Loyola Marymount University.
Among her leadership contributions, Marie served as the Wyoming Secondary Art Secretary from ’00-04. She was an Advanced Placement Art educator for nine years. Her high school students’ work was published in the Nikon Best College Photography Annual and in Photographer’s Forum Magazine.
Marie’s own photography has been published in the Wyoming Wildlife Magazine. Marie is adept at creating in both computer and photography technologies. She has generously donated work to the WSAE student leadership fundraisers.
