NCSD Board of Trustees’ Meeting Report

During the February 9th meeting the Board of Trustees approved a bid for the use of Board Priority Funding to obtain schematic designs and cost evaluations for potential retention of the KWHS Pool Building and the KWHS Main & Auxiliary Gyms.
Also approved was the recommendation from the Construction Steering Committee to purchase and install a therapy Pool located at CAPS. Board Chairman Dave Applegate noted the pool is a self-contained specialty pool that will support instructional learning in the Academy of Health Sciences and Human Services.
During the work session the Trustees received updates on committee action and reports from the Board Academic Steering Committee, Board Construction Steering Committee and the Board Policy Committee. Committee action and reports can be found at: www.natronaschoolsblog.org under the “In Focus” tab.
The Board of Trustees heard from a committee of stakeholders including teachers, administrators and parents in relation to NCSD’s Gifted and Talent program. Currently, the program is housed at Pineview Elementary School and CY Middle School. The committee shared a report which included a 5 year plan for the program.
Associate Superintendent of C&I, Walt Wilcox, provided the Board of Trustees with a Standards-Based Education update. Mr. Wilcox introduced members representing the NCSD Curriculum Coordinating Council. The group provided a brief update on their long range plan for moving the district forward towards Standards Based Education in all nine content areas.
