University Park student, Alexa Hett, beamed with excitement as NCSD’s Food Services Manager Mike Pyska handed her a new iPad mini.
As a promotional effort to increase the amount of online applications for the free and reduced-price meals program, Food Services holds a yearly drawing for an iPad mini. All students whose families submitted their application online were entered into the drawing. The promotion continues to have a positive effect on the application process. Approximately 10% of paper applications are filled-out incorrectly, the online application not only saves employees’ time, but also ensures accuracy when the information is submitted. At the beginning of the 2013-14 school year roughly 72% of families used the online application.
Alexa was the lucky student chosen via a random drawing of the 1,375 online applications that were submitted to NCSD. She was especially excited for the prize and said she would use the iPad to download games and new books.
Even though the iPad mini has been given away, there is still time to submit applications for the free and reduced-price meals program.
