Discover how our kids are being empowered to create their future!
Students in HOPE (Helping Other People Everyday) groups at Verda James Elementary School were asked how they could make a positive impact in the world. The students decided to challenge their classmates to a Penny War with all of the proceeds benefiting an organization called Heifer International. This organization provides families living in poverty with training, tools, and livestock to empower them to grow and raise their own sustainable food sources. In addition, it provides income from the sale of leftover goods.
In just nine days, Verda James’ students brought in 505 pounds of coins and raised $1,827 for families in need!
Many of the students had a chance to learn about new cultures and hear about the incredible effects of small, short-term loans on whole communities. This stewardship project was a great success thanks to the efforts of our parents and students to fill others with HOPE.
