Survey: Strong Interest in Music and Robotics

Voice of the Student Analyzed

In January, students in fourth, seventh and eleventh grade were asked to complete the Voice of the Student Survey to determine participation and interest in athletics and activities offered at their schools. The co-curricular committee used February’s meeting to review the results and data from that survey. The survey found there is great interest in music and robotics. Results suggested that transportation may be a barrier for students.

The committee wishes to use this data to make decisions about what activities are offered. It will also work with the transportation department to determine if the district can help ease the transportation barrier. Sites are encouraged to look into why students aren’t interested in what is currently offered.

9th Grade Cut Policy

The group began discussion and gathering story surrounding a cut policy for freshman athletic participants. Discussion about options and any recommendations will continue.

March Meeting

The deadline to submit the co-curricular budget recommendation to the superintendent is March 27. The committee decided to meet on March 19 from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. to allow enough time to carefully work through unit allocations in order to submit a thoughtful and justified recommendation.

Members present: Mark Mathern (leader), Kellie Olson (recorder), Shannon Fischer (resource), Terry Hooker (athletics / activities), Anne LaPlante (NCASE), Ralph Obray (NCASE), Kevin Pagett (NCASE), Amy Rose (NCASE), Larry Meeboer (NCASE), Brenda Miller (SEIO), Rose Hill (NCAESS), Susan Balfour (NCEA), Scott Reinsbach (NCEA), Crystal Mueller (HR), Gary Ukele (HR), Ryan Kelly (BFS), Chris Tobin (Midwest-K-8 Rural-Roosevelt), Connie Brasel (SEIO), Sheila McHattie (NCEA), Shannon Jackett (parent).
