Breaking Down the PAWS Percentage

Each year, the online enrollment window is preceded by the release of a convenient reference guide showcasing each of our schools. It includes details on programs and curriculum offered at the individual schools, plus statistics like enrollment numbers and assessment results are listed.

In the most recent “Your Family’s Guide to Natrona County Schools 2013-14,” PAWS results for the district’s four high schools were calculated by including all students who took the test. At Roosevelt and Midwest High School, sophomores were allowed the opportunity to take the test. The inclusion of sophomore scores in the PAWS results produces a different number than if they had not been included. While the initial calculation as seen in the “Guide” provides an accurate picture of the state of the schools for all students who took the test, we thought it important to explain that schools are not held accountable for student performance until those students are juniors. The table below illustrates the differences at RHS and MHS with sophomores included and excluded in the calculations.

Kelly Walsh High School and Natrona County High School are not affected by the different calculations because no sophomores at these schools took the PAWS test in the Spring of 2012.
