Natrona Schools – Our Kids, Our Community

Discover how our kids are being empowered to create their future!

An Open Letter to NCSD Teachers and Staff

Dear Teachers and NCSD Staff,
I was going to use this message to wish you and your family a restful and memorable Christmas break. Instead, I want to personally thank you for carrying the weight of responsibility it takes to be a teacher and school support staff in modern America. The events of last Friday’s tragedy in Connecticut are no doubt weighing heavy on your minds.

On top of the expectations placed upon you to impart education and to meet proficiency standards, there is also the added pressure of the safety of each student that sits in your classroom. Parents entrust us with their kids every day. They trust their children are getting a well-rounded education and they trust their children will be safe from harm from outside forces and even within their peer groups. Thank you for reviewing your building’s crisis management plan and thinking about the safety of your students. You are commended for your diligence and daily dedication to our community’s children. You are honored for the sacrifices you make in this vocation you were called into.

Friday, the country witnessed the heroic acts that the teachers and staff of Sandy Hook made to protect their children. We know that teachers and support staff are truly heroes everyday. I know I speak on behalf of all of the parents of this district when I say Thank You! Thank you for caring so much. Thank you for giving so much. Thank you for being such a valuable part of our learning system.

Have a blessed Holiday!

Yours in education,
Dr. Joel Dvorak
NCSD Superintendent

Thank you for your comments. The staff in our school systems are as much on the front line in a war as anyone who ever served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This can be an opportunity for teaching as well as honoring. I believe that the pen is mightier than the sword. That is a lesson, I try to teach my kids. Several people are sending cards and letters to the school as a show of support.

    Here is the address:
    Sandy Hook Elementary School
    12 Dickenson Dr.
    Newtown, CT 06482

    God Bless
